Type of use
Physical or digital reproduction of a music work or of certain elements of a work on a graphic support. For example, reproducing the lyrics and/or music of a music work in a school manual, a novel, sheet music, a screen, a newspaper, a web page, etc.
What To Do
- Identify and contact all of the music work’s rights holders. You can also enquire with collective rights management organizations in charge of the graphical reproduction right (COPIBEC, SOCAN) to find out if they are able to provide you with the required permission to reproduce that work.
- Obtain the permission of the music work’s rights holders as well as a licence in due form.
Clarifications and cautionary statement
You must obtain the permission of the rights holders to proceed with the complete or partial graphic reproduction of a music work, and they will most likely require compensation.
